Activity: Scholarly Encyclopedia
- Start on the UW Libraries home page Links to an external site..
- From there, navigate to Start Your Research and click Encyclopedias and Dictionaries. You can browse the encyclopedias and dictionaries that are available on the front page.
- You can browse the encyclopedias and dictionaries that are available on the front page. Two that you might want to start with are Gale Ebooks Links to an external site. (a collection of encyclopedias) and Sage Research Methods (encyclopedias, case studies & more).
- Additionally, you can search for encyclopedias by entering a search term and the word "encyclopedias." For example: "global warming encyclopedias." You may do this from the home page (such as you would in conducting a standard search,) or in the search bar on the encyclopedias and dictionaries page.
- Many of the results will be print books. You can limit your search to ebooks by using the advanced search function and choosing "ebooks" as the material type.
- Find an encyclopedia you are interested in. Read through an article or two, or just skim to see what kind of information is available.
Remember, if you are having trouble with any of the activities, you can ask your cohort facilitators for assistance in Slack!
