Activity: Set Yourself Up

Start preparing yourself for fall quarter by knowing your basic research resources and installing any tools that give you access.

Preparation Plan

Step 1

Set yourself up for continued off-campus access by installing Husky OnNet.

Step 2

Set up up your Interlibrary Loan Links to an external site. (ILL) Account to borrow materials that UW Libraries doesn't own. If it's an article, ILL will scan it for you!

Step 3

Find a Research Guide in your subject area using the Seattle, Bothell, Tacoma, or Health Sciences guide lists. Using the guides, consider the following:

  • Who is your subject librarian?
  • What subject-specific databases, journals, and resources does your guide point to?
  • Did you already know about any of these resources?  What's new?

Step 4

Configure Google Scholar to show your access to resources via UW Libraries.

  • Go to the Google Scholar Homepage Links to an external site.
  • Click the menu in the upper-left corner and select "settings"
  • In the menu on the left of the settings page, click "Library links"
  • Type "University of Washington" into the search box. Find the box next to University of Washington - Full-Text @ UW and click it (you may have to look on the next page of results.)
  • Save your settings.
