Translating a Community's Digital Presence
Directions:
For this assignment, you are to work with your fellow peers who analyzed the same community as you for homework. Share your analyses. Once you have all shared and discussed your analyses, answer the following questions. Only one partner/group member needs to submit your responses. We will discuss this as a class, so be prepared to talk!
- Who is in your group?
- Which community did you focus on? Why did you choose this community?
- Summarize your analyses. What did you focus on?
- What is similar in your analyses? Why do you think there is this similarity?
- What is different in your analyses? Why do you think this difference exists?
- What is the purpose of this community? What are their goals? How do you know?
- What kinds of work does this community accomplish? How do you know?
- Is this community local? How do you know?
- What kind of online presence does this community have? Consider their website, social media presence, local presence, etc.
- How would you rate the design of their website/online presence? Consider things like: color, emphasis, contrast, organization, repetition, alignment, etc.
- How would you rate the usability/accessibility of their website/online presence (especially considering language and translation)?
- What languages (if any) are available for translation on their websites/social media?
- What kinds of translation do you think would most benefit this community? Why?
- How do you imagine yourselves participating in this community? What can you offer?
- Imagine that you have to create a translation for a document from this community. What would you choose to translate? How would you translate that document? Why would that be beneficial for the community?
- What other takeaways do you have from this assignment?
