Module 4: What does geoscience reveal about how Stonehenge was built?

Overview

We will investigate the purpose and origins of Stonehenge, using a geochemical dataset obtained from its bluestones, and consider how its function helps us to understand modern events.

Objectives

  • Understand how Stonehenge was built, and where the stones come from
  • Introduce basic methods of geoarchaeology
  • Import data into R, clean it with string manipulation, wrangle it with dplyr functions, and visualise in an R Markdown document
  • Analyse and report on a simple dataset about elemental analysis
