Annotation Assignment
Note: I understand that there may be accessibility challenges related both to watching the Persepolis film and annotating a document. Please reach out to me ASAP if you will be impacted by this negatively so that we can work out an alternative.

- Annotate a Reading: Download the “Framing Rights” article by Arzoo Osanloo Download “Framing Rights” article by Arzoo Osanloo that was assigned for Week 3. You may mark-up your pdf, print it and scan it with handwritten annotations, etc. What is key is that the teaching team can see your annotation scheme, so think about how you will upload the final annotated document. You are responsible for making sure that we can see your annotations.
- Create a separate document that includes the following:

- Write a formal citation in a standard format (like APA or Chicago style) for the “Framing Rights” article. This citation should be properly formatted, with the first line left-aligned and subsequent lines indented.
- Write a 100-200 word summary of the “Framing Rights” article. This summary should highlight information such as 1. What the article is about; 2. What argument(s) the article makes; 3. What types of evidence the article explores; and 4. How this article connects to the themes we’ve been thinking about so far in class. The formal citation and the short summary combined create what we call an “annotated bibliographic citation.”
- Annotation Scheme Description (length will vary, but probably between 100-200 words): While you were annotating the “Framing Rights” article, you had to make choices about how to mark key information (e.g. highlight, underline, write in the margins, etc.). Briefly describe what strategies you adopted to annotate the article. How did you make note of different types of ideas and evidence?
- Short Reading Reflection: In a short 2-3 page written reflection (about 500-750 words), you should think about how the “Framing Rights” reading connects with both the Persepolis film and our readings and discussions from weeks 1-2. This reflection should bring in specific quotes or evidence from readings or the film. You may also choose to consider your own reactions to different ideas and pieces of evidence. The strongest reflections may present a creative discussion of course themes and concepts, or develop an original thesis, and will be well written and well-organized.

You will upload both your annotated "Framing Rights" article and the separate document that includes your (1) annotated bibliographic citation, (2) annotation scheme description, and (3) short reading reflection by midnight on Tuesday, April 18.

Excellent summaries will demonstrate advanced comprehension and comfort with nuance.

Student assignment includes a short description of their annotation scheme choices. "Excellent" descriptions will carefully elaborate on student choices for how to organize and identify important information and connections.
