Mini-Ethnography
Directions:
For this assignment, you are asked to participate in a community somehow (a class you are taking, a study group, a gaming group, an online forum, your roommates, etc.), take field notes, and write a mini-ethnography about your experiences. You can choose to be an active participant or a passive participant. The focus/question is up to you. Have fun with this, but if you take it seriously, you can use it for part of Sequence 2. As for informed consent, since this is such a small project that won't leave this classroom, using pseudonyms will be enough risk prevention UNLESS your participants are against being represented in the project. YOU MUST BE OVERT WITH YOUR RESEARCH!
Options:
- Pick any small, fun community that you belong to, observe and/or interview some members of that community, and write your ethnography based on the lived experiences in that community
- Choose the community that you might work with for Sequence 2 and use this as a "pilot" project for Sequence 2 (you can use anything you write for this assignment in your Sequence)
Deliverables:
- Field notes (can be typed or handwritten - if handwritten, take a picture of the notes and submit it to Canvas)
- ~1ish page (double-spaced) mini-ethnography
