SLAC Representative Application Process
Apply to be a SLAC Representative!
Each year, the Service Learning Advisory Committee (SLAC) seeks students to serve as MS1, PT/OT/P&O, and MEDEX student representatives. Students are elected to a one-year term, with optional continuance for an additional year.
We are looking for MS1 students to represent the following sites/groups:

Benefits of serving as a SLAC student representative
- Make your voice heard in policy development around service learning. Impact the ability for you and your classmates (and future classmates) to participate in community-based activities and projects.
- Build relationships with UW faculty members committed to ethical community engagement practices.
- Gain valuable skills related to community engagement, program development and implementation of service experiences.
Student responsibilities
- Attend at least 80% of the scheduled meetings. SLAC meetings in general are scheduled on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:00-7:30pm Pacific Time. Conference capabilities are available and flexibility will be granted for students whose schedules conflict with the meeting time.
- Act as a communication liaison with members of your class by providing updates on the activity of the committee and supporting students to develop and participate in service learning projects.
- Gather information and feedback to represent the student point of view on specific topics at meetings.
- Provide information to committee chairs and SLAC members on emerging issues.
- Meet with the Assistant Director of Service Learning on a quarterly basis.
- Meet with your site's Service Learning Champion on a quarterly basis to discuss what is working well and what could be improved.
- Serve on ad hoc subcommittees (such as the service award or mini-grant subcommittee) as requested.
Membership eligibility
UW School of Medicine students in good standing and with an interest in community service, service learning and/or advocacy are eligible to serve on the committee

If you are interested in serving on the Service Learning Advisory Committee or know of someone that you would like to nominate, email the Service Learning Team (somserve@uw.edu) with the following information:
- Name
- Year
- 1st year site
- A brief paragraph about why you (or your colleague) would like to serve on the committee, including what experiences, skills, and perspectives your (their) participation will contribute to the committee.

Spokane: Sunday, September 15, 2024
Seattle: Saturday, August 31, 2024
Alaska, Idaho, Montana: Monday, September 23, 2024
Wyoming: Friday, September 27, 2024
SLAC Rep Selection
The selection process will be conducted by Service Learning SLAC teams after the application period closes. Students selected as SLAC reps will be notified by early-October. All reps will be expected to join the October SLAC meeting.
