Instructions

This exam is due no later than 11:59 pm Monday  3/11.

  • This is an open book exam: you may refer to any course materials and notes.
  • I expect you to compose and submit your own responses to the questions. You may discuss the material and your ideas with your classmates, but your written response should be your own.
  • I do NOT recommend using ChatGPT or any similar large language model chatbots to aid you in composing your response. If you use ANY technological aids more complex than a spelling or grammar check built into your word processing software, you MUST EXPLICITLY ACKNOWLEDGE such use in a note to your answer.
  • Anything within your answer that is quoted directly from another source, primary or secondary, MUST be within quotation marks, with the page number of the source in parentheses following the quotation.

The exam has two parts.

  • In Part 1 you are given five passages from primary readings assigned during weeks 6 through 10 of our course (classes 09 through 16).  Identify each passage, and briefly explain what's happening in the passage and how it is typical of the school, movement, or period in literary history to which it belongs.
  • Part 2 (Question 6) consists of an essay question related to the passages in Part 1 and the works from which they are taken. Respond to the question in an essay of 500-750 words.

Detailed instructions are given under the respective questions.
