Poli Sci/JSIS/LSJ/GWSS Writing Center
The Political Science/JSIS/LSJ/GWSS Writing Center has a team of dedicated tutors from a broad background of training. The Center is now open and students can sign up for appointments at https://www.polisci.washington.edu/pol-sjsislsjgwss-writing-center Links to an external site..
What we do:
- We assist at all points of the writing process – from brainstorming to the final draft – so that your written work clearly and effectively communicates your ideas.
- We are here to help you write strong thesis statements, make persuasive arguments, use evidence to support your claims, use proper citation practices, understand the expectations of your assignment, and learn disciplinary writing norms.
- We can also provide feedback about major applications, cover letters, internship applications, fellowship applications; etc.
Who can use the Writing Center?
Any student taking a class listed in or cross-listed with Political Science; Law, Societies & Justice; Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies; or the Jackson School or is majoring (or an intended major) in any of these programs. This includes writers of all abilities, English language learners, and even graduate students.
Odegaard Writing and Research Center (OWRC)
The OWRC offers a variety of support for writers, including 45-minute consultations with peer tutors, which you can sign up for through their website. If English is your second, third, or fourth (!!) language, you can join their Targeted Learning Communities program. You’ll be paired with three to five fellow students from your course or similar courses and tutor-facilitators for meetings once a week to support your classroom learning.
