Assessment of participation and engagement
As stated on the syllabus, this class is based on our collective experiences of language and how we take up and are impacted by the concepts discussed in class. Therefore, it is essential that we put forth active listening and engagement with our own peers’ experiences, as a means to understanding language and its complexities.
Throughout the quarter, we have worked as a whole class, individually and in groups. We created a classroom community agreement and a group protocol, which were meant to be honored throughout the course.
Please write a short reflection (1 page max.) about how you have participated and engaged in this class
- Individually (writing into the day, class participation, quality of the annotations)
- In your group (projects)
- With the whole class (in class mostly)
Be specific about how doing these types of work has contributed to your understanding of the complexities of language and your future academic, professional, and personal trajectory. Use examples from your own work. Make sure that what you say is consistent with the rest of the memos you have turned in throughout the quarter for each project.
Guiding questions:
- In what ways did you honor the classroom community agreement and the group protocol? 6 points
- In what ways did individual, group, and whole-class work expand your understanding of language and its contradictions? 6 points
- How will your engagement with class ideas through these types of work shape your future trajectory? 3 points
