Research: IWW projects

The Industrial Workers of the World advocate militant unionism,  racial equality, and the revolutionary overthrow of capitalism. They were the most radical, and in many circles, hated and feared, social movement of the early 20th century.  Visit the IWW History Project Links to an external site. to begin to explore the subject. Most of the yearbooks and some articles were contributed by former students in HSTAA 353. Papers for our current class must be based on a combination of secondary and primary source research and for that we have access to issues of the IWW's main English-language newspaper, the Industrial Worker Links to an external site. for the years 1907-1913. Here are some possible topics:  Spokane Free Speech fight 1910; Lawrence textile strike; Patterson silk strike 1913;  graphic art work in the Industrial Worker; poetry/song in the Industrial Worker

  Primary source research (newspapers):

2) read issues of the Industrial Worker Links to an external site. relevant to your project 

3) Fill in  spreadsheet and write a short description of the event or issue described in each article. Feel free to add additional information in other columns. Your database needs to include no less than 20 articles.
