General Information

Attendance

The University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM) expects students to attend, actively participate, and prioritize their academic education and training. UWSOM also recognizes that other academic and personal events occur during clinical training. The following policies provide guidance for students, staff, and faculty on student attendance and absences in the clinical phases:

Attendance and Absentee Policy

Healthcare Absences

All requests for non-emergent absences MUST be made 6 weeks prior to the start of the rotation block using this form.

Unanticipated absences during the clerkship must be communicated to your site director AND Medical Student Program.

Transportation

A car is required and when traveling to/from sites within the region all mileage should be tracked. Reimbursement can be requested through GoWWAMI.

Housing

The provided housing for Missoula WWAMI students is either a three bedroom/one bath house or a five bedroom/two bath house. Both houses are centrally located to the University of Montana campus, walking distance of downtown Missoula and within a short drive of all clinical locations. No pets or smoking are allowed. The houses are fully furnished including a washer and dryer, linens, and kitchen utensils. We ask that mail be sent to the clerkship office, if possible, rather than directly to the house. Families can be accommodated on a case-by-case basis, please contact Elizabeth Kelsey to discuss further.

This site requires a standard panel drug test to be ordered through the SOM. Order a drug test here.

You will be contacted by the UW Regional Administrators about required forms to complete and return 6-8 weeks before your rotation. Please be responsive to all requests as any delays may have impact on your clerkship rotation. Any questions can be directed to Judi Sullivan or Vanessa Siddoway

Additionally, students will receive a site e-mail notification prior to their arrival which will include housing placement, directions, attending assignments, etc. The email will also include an orientation schedule. Orientation occurs on the first day of the clerkship. Any questions can be directed to Elizabeth Kelsey.
