    Create line graph in Excel, Illustrator and Tableau [~2 hours]

    This assignment will introduce you to using Excel, Illustrator and Tableau for data displays. You will create a line chart of the data shown below in this (slightly modified) chart from the PEW Research Center.

    STEP 1: Create a new Illustrator file and paste in a copy of the image above.

    STEP 2: Download the data for this chart here.

    STEP 3: Create the line chart with Illustrator (the video below shows you how)

    STEP 4: Create the line chart with Excel (the videos below show you how—watch the one that is appropriate for the operating system you're using)

    STEP 5: Paste your Excel chart into Illustrator in preparation for formatting it (something you'll do in the next assignment). There are a few tricks involved in doing this. Watch this video to learn them:

    STEP 6: Create the line chart with Tableau (the video below shows you how). If you're using Windows, watch both. If you're using a Mac, just watch the first.

    STEP 7: Save your Tableau chart to a pdf file, then open it in Illustrator and paste it into your Illustrator file. (Watch the appropriate video for your operating system).

    STEP 8: Save a copy of this illustrator file to use for the next assignment.
