Milgard Template Integrity Example

As part of the required assertion of academic integrity before students can begin the course, the Milgard course template has the following language.

Milgard School of Business Student Code of Integrity

Students are asked to adhere to the Student Code of Integrity for the Milgard School of Business:

“We the students of the Milgard School of Business believe that integrity and honesty are integral to our educational experience and our lives. We aspire to hold ourselves and our fellow students to the highest ethical standards and will not engage in activities that are improper or have the appearance of impropriety in our academic lives. We intend to maintain these standards as graduates of UW Tacoma.”

Academic standards including plagiarism

Students at the University of Washington are expected to maintain the highest standards of academic conduct as published in the UWT Catalog. The integrity that will be required in your professional career should be practiced in your academic career. Academic misconductLinks to an external site. is a serious offense that can have severe penalties including failing an assignment, failing the course, or dismissal from the university.

You are guilty of cheating if you turn in work that is not your own.

You are guilty of cheating if you consult or collaborate with anyone on assignments that are meant to be completed individually. 

You are guilty of plagiarism if you fail to cite the source of any idea that is not your own. To plagiarize is to appropriate and to pass off, as one's own ideas, writing or works of another. Copying and pasting from any source without proper identification is plagiarism. Plagiarism is no less of a misconduct violation than vandalism or assault. Ignorance of proper documentation procedures is the usual cause of plagiarism. This ignorance does not excuse the act. You are responsible for learning how and when to document and attribute resources used in preparing a written or oral presentation.
