Peer Review Assignments
NOTE: we will not have you create a peer-review assignment as part of a formal Learning Lab, but if you want to try it out, please use the following information and resources...and let us know if you need help!
About Peer Review Assignments
A peer review assignment Links to an external site. enables students to provide feedback on another student's assignment submission. Peer reviews can be assigned to show student names or display anonymously.
You can manually assign peer reviews or choose to have Canvas automatically assign them. You can also choose to allow students to see other students' names in peer reviews or make them anonymous. When anonymous peer reviews are enabled, instructors and TAs can still view the names of student reviewers in SpeedGrader and in the student submission page.
To complete a peer review, students are required to leave at least one comment. If you include a rubric, they are only required to complete the rubric.
Assignment Details for Peer Review
When you create or edit an assignment, you will use the following options to make that assignment a peer review:
- Select "Require Peer Reviews" (required)
- Choose to manually assign peer reviews yourself, or
- Automatically assign them.
If you choose to automatically assign the peer reviews, you will have a few more options:
- Select how many peer reviews each student will be assigned, and
- When the reviews will be assigned.
Option 2 can be confusing: this is the date when the peer review will be assigned and the item in question will be available for review. That's why the commencement of the review (the Assign Reviews) date must be after the assignment due date...otherwise there might be nothing to review!
Finally, you can choose whether a peer review is anonymous or not. If you choose this option, students will not know whose work they are reviewing, but you will still be able to see who performed the reviews:
