Working in a group can be challenging, and may sometimes seem superfluous to the intellectual aspects of a university education. However, it's important to learn how to be an effective group member because many real-world activities (e.g. in the workplace) require us to be part of a group that produces a useful result under various constraints. Having awesome skills and knowledge is of limited value if you can't share them to benefit a group project. We have some guidance on working well in groups here. The purpose of this assignment is to encourage self-reflection on your group work to reveal opportunities for improvement in future group work that you'll do in other contexts in your life.
Please answer these three questions with one paragraph each:
- What is one specific example of something you learned from the group that you probably wouldn’t have learned working alone?
- What is one specific example of something the other group members learned from you that they probably wouldn’t have learned otherwise?
- What is one specific change the group could have made to improve its performance?
Each group member must submit their own, unique self-reflection here.
