Citation Management Tools: UW Libraries Citation Generators

UW Libraries have citation generators built into certain databases that can “generate” the citation of your sources. Please make sure to double-check your citations when using these tools as they are machine-generated and may contain some errors. Below are a few examples of where you can find citation generators within the UW Libraries website.

UW Libraries Search

UW Libraries Search has a built-in citation generator when searching for sources. When looking at a source, simply click on the "Citation" button located at the top of the page, select your preferred citation style, and copy your citation to your clipboard.

Ebsco Databases

Most Ebsco databases such as Academic Search Complete contain citation generators as well. After finding a source, look for the "Cite" button on the right side of the page, select your preferred citation style, and copy to your clipboard or export to your reference manager software, also known as citation management tool, discussed on the next page.

ProQuest Databases

For most ProQuest databases such as ERIC, their citation generator tool is located at the top right corner of the source page. The citation will pop up in a new window, and you can repeat the process of selecting your preferred citation style using the dropdown window and copying the citation style or exporting it to your citation management tool.

Note that these are only a few examples of citation generator tools that exist within certain UW Libraries databases, and you can keep an eye out for the "Cite" or "Citation" button in other databases. For databases that don’t contain citation generators, there are other browser-based citation generators that you can use which will be discussed on the next page.
