Citation Management Tools: Citation Generators

Citation generators are browser-based or online applications that can quickly “generate” the citations of your sources. These tools are generally free and easy to learn. There can be restrictions on how many free citations you can generate and are best for one-off papers where you plan to only cite a few references.

Some recommended citation generators are ZoteroBib Links to an external site., EasyBib Links to an external site., and Cite This for Me Links to an external site..

Most databases, catalogs and even popular websites have a “quick cite” function. Links may be labelled variously Cite (EBSCO and ProQuest databases, Google Scholar), Cite/Export (UW WorldCat), Citation Tools (Gale databases), or Cite this page (Wikipedia), but they all offer quick cut-and-paste citations in the most common formats. Best practice is to always check over and correct the data from quick citation tools, since individual citations often have small omissions or formatting errors.
