Captions
You can enable captions in Zoom meetings to make to make your meetings more accessible for everyone. Zoom can automatically generate live captions during a meeting. These captions won't be 100% accurate, but they can still be a useful reference during or after a meeting. Instructors may wish to consult with their students or their program managers to see whether they recommend turning on automated captioning.
To turn on captions:
-
- Select the Show Captions icon in Zoom meeting controls. If the icon is not visible, you can instead select Captions... from the More menu in the meeting controls to find this option.
- When prompted, choose the language of the speaker(s) and click Save to confirm.
If a participant in your meeting has formally requested captions as an accommodation, a professional captioning service is required to ensure high accuracy. These services are offered to UW faculty, staff, and non-matriculated students through the Disability Services Office.
