Translation Assignment 2

DUE: No later than Thursday, March 14 by 11:00 PM.  Please submit via Canvas as file upload (just as with the previous two assignments).

At some point this quarter, in the course of reading the passages in Tacitus assigned in Latin, you must have had (or I hope you had) a moment when you thought to yourself, "This is a great passage!  I love it!"...a moment, that is, when Tacitus' Latin struck a chord (I hope you had more than one of these moments...but you must have had at least one).

This last translation assignment asks you to identify in what you have read in the assigned Latin of Tacitus' Neronian books (this means Books 13-16) ONE such passage and translate it.  It should be a passage of between 15-20 lines in Heubner...a passage, that is, approximately the length of a passage you could expect to see in the Latin translation exam.  It may be a bit longer, but no shorter than 15 full lines.  

Some guidelines:

1. Please clearly indicate (Book and Chap. number) what your passage is.  You don't need to include the Latin (unless you want to).  
2. Also indicate how long you took to complete the passage. As with past assignments, this is untimed...I merely want to know how long you took for my own edification. 
3. As usual, please consult no dictionaries, translations, or notes (including commentaries).  Preferably, choose your passage by reviewing what you've read in Heubner...not by using Woodman's translation.  
4. Two suggestions, repeated from past assignments: A) Aim for a translation that respects the grammar of the Latin as far as is possible without doing undue violence to the English language. B) If you hit a word or phrase you don’t remember, make your best guess or leave a blank spot; don’t spend hours fretting over it.
