In preparation for our first section on Friday please do this short exercise and upload it to canvas before coming to sections.
After reading the instructions on how to read primary sources and while you start reading Tacitus Germania and Lex Salica, please write down a brief "checklist" for both sources, which contain the following information:

What purpose(s) did the text serve?

How does it serve the purpose for which it was written?

How does it fit in to the period during which it was written?

Don't worry if you don't have clear answers yet for some of the questions. We will discuss this in sections together. Just jump into the cold water of reading primary sources and do your best ;-)
