Presentation/Discussion Leading
- Due May 29, 2024 by 1:30pm
- Points None
You will each be responsible once this quarter for making an informal presentation and leading a class discussion.
These will be done first thing on Mondays and you will start signing up for these in the second week of the quarter. We will do only one each week. When you sign up, you only need to choose the week and reading. You will NOT already need to know what type of writing assignmentyou'll be basing this on.
Presentations and discussions will focus on your written or artistic response submitted the previous Friday.
Instructions
- You may choose to do this after submitting any of the written assignments, not just the artistic response, and in response to any of the readings.
- Begin your presentation by walking us through the process you underwent in writing assignment or creating your artistic response. I and your classmates will have read your work ahead of time, so no need to repeat what you've written or to read it aloud. However, if your artistic response includes performance or something that must be physically handled, this is the time to do that.
- Tell us what you learned in the process--about the work of fiction you addressed, about your own tendencies as a reader and/or writer, about fiction in general, about the relationship between fiction and the world we live in, and/or about anything else writing-related.
- Discuss how you think you would have approached this same writing assignment in response to any of the other readings we've done by that point in the quarter.
- Lead a discussion OR create an assignment for us to complete right then that grows out of your presentation. You might:
- Lead us as a group to do the same writing assignment you did but apply it to a different reading
- Ask us to do the same writing assignment you did--or just part of it. Then have us share our results and discuss what we found interesting or challenging.
- Lead us in a discussion about what we all find interesting/challenging about this particular writing assignment, no matter which reading we applied it to. This might work better later in the quarter, once students have completed most of the different types of assignments. If you want to take a poll ahead of time to find out if others have already completed the writing assignment you are approaching, please do so.
- Lead a discussion about whether the particular writing assignment you did works better with some of the readings than others.
- Devise a completely NEW writing assignment for us to try in response to the reading you tackled.
- Anything else you think would be interesting to discuss or try. Of course, feel free to run it by me first if you like.
- Your total presentation/discussion/assignment should take about 20 minutes.
