In your new teams, take notes on the following prompts to come up with a team policy. Please use this Google doc link Links to an external site. to submit your team's answers to the prompts below. Your team does not need to submit anything on Canvas.
Team Policy Prompts
1. Team name: Introduce yourselves to one another, then find something that all of you share in common and use that as the basis for your team name. Feel free to be fun/creative - extra (pretend) points if it relates to the class in some way!
2. Communication Plan: How will you communicate with each other? (e.g. text, email, Canvas group homepage, Slack, Discord...) Relatedly, how will you share materials with each other? (e.g. team role assignments, rough drafts for peer review, completed peer reviews...) Make sure you are all able to contact one another.
3. Team Role Schedule: Create a schedule for who will have which team role for the Quiz Section readings, starting next week. Be clear so that the TA/instructor can adjust the due dates/times accordingly on Canvas! (i.e. be clear who has the Reporter role each week)
4. Absent/missing work: Create a contingency plan for what the team will do if a team member is absent or hasn't turned in their work to the team.
5. Community Agreement: Start brainstorming ideas for what you need from each other for a positive, inclusive learning environment. What do you need from each other to succeed during discussion and collaborative assignments? Generate a list of norms/rules that you feel you can all agree to as a team.
Examples could include or build upon (these are examples borrowed from previous classes):
- Be prepared for discussion by doing the readings
- Be proactive about communicating to the group/TA if you will be late or can't finish an assignment/reading; don't leave your team in the dark
- Listen actively; build on others' thoughts and ideas, don't just restate them
- Don't interrupt each other or dominate the conversation
- Don't just agree with everything - express your own opinions, but be kind if you disagree with someone
- When giving feedback, be constructive. Don't just say everything is great, but also don't give only negative feedback without comments about what is good.
- Ask for help or clarification if you need it
