Assignment 1: Portal
- Due Feb 10 by 11:30am
- Points 50
- Submitting a file upload
This assignment asks you to consider communicating a significant message from our lives to another space/time using textile materials and techniques and scent.
You are asked to research an indigenous community living around the Pacific Ocean, including the Americas, Asia, and Oceania. Focus your research on 3 things: general information about the community and select one cultural artifact and one scent that is connected to this community.
If you were to visit this community, what information, artifact, scent would you like to show them from your life/culture. How would you make the connection?
Your assignment is to make this imagined connection physical through the idea of a "portal" made of textile materials that would take the visitor between these two spaces.
Consider the psychology of scent and tactile materials. Use at least 2 of the techniques learned in this module.
