Here is an opportunity for you to reflect on the differences you observe in the markets we visit and our experience of food shopping at home. We can think about the differences at a sensorial level, in terms of what we observe, smell, hear, and taste. And it allows us to think about the difference between foods that are still alive and those that are essentially dead (overly processed and far-from-fresh). It also allows to think about the market in terms of the kind of social space it is: a corporate entity in which the back story of our food is largely obscured versus a gathering of producers and consumers in direct communication with each other. How do the readings for this Unit help to rethink our relation of food through our experience of farmer's markets and supermarkets?
