Outcome 3

            Outcome three requests that the writer demonstrate in his academic assignments, the ability to write a well thought, analytical, and persuasive claim, and develop it throughout the assignment. Major Paper one tackles the subject of language once again, but this time discuss how language is the primary source of communication for humans, yet serves as a source of commonality as well a method to separate and distinguish people. The essay addresses the fact that these two effects of language conflict with each other, but goes on to demonstrate that these two events indeed do happen throughout society. Many different sources are used throughout the essay in order to support this complicated claim, and separate paragraphs address various parts of the issue. Examples are taken from texts we studied in class, from people who were interviewed, and from my own personal experiences. Certain paragraphs illustrated how language has the ability to be used as a source of commonality by looking at how we use language to communicate with each other and how immigrants use language as a way to unite through their common language. Other paragraphs demonstrated how language was used to separate and distinguish people or groups of people, by providing my personal examples of growing up in an international community, demonstrating how people of certain regions use language to distinguish themselves, how language by itself can reveal someone’s intelligence or even what social class they are from. At one point, the essay even discusses how language is the cause of immigrants to be separated from the people that are native to the land that the immigrants moved too, yet language is also the solution as immigrants find commonality through their own languages and unite that way. Nevertheless, the introduction paragraph presents the arguments well, and highlights the issues that are going to be discussed, then each paragraph successfully develops an idea and plays an important role in supporting the overall argument, and the conclusion is able to tie everything up together well in the end.
