In my first quarter, I realized that while making money is awesome, at the end of my life I would not feel fulfilled. In a class I took back in first quarter, “Place and Displacement in the Americas”, I was smacked in the face with the harsh realities that people in my country had to go through.  I simply cannot sit idly by and make money when I know someone out there is suffering or that there is some sort of injustice in our system. Thinking about how I could satiate that urge to help, while still not ending up living in my mom’s basement, I considered being a lawyer. This led me to this class, and I can honestly say I fell in love with what I’ve learned/done so far. While I have had experience in the past with lawyers at the ACLU / other private firms for a senior project in high school, actually preparing for the mock trials, constructing a substantial case, and doing an examination ( although I was extremely nervous when I did it)  was a lot of fun. I did not feel like I was doing homework.   I had originally been intending to major in Business Administration with a focus in marketing, but have now decided I will major in Law, Economics and Public Policy, then ultimately to go to law school.  Next quarter I will be taking “Intro to Law”, which I am very excited for.  Also right after today’s mock trial I talked to Caleb about joining the debate society (which, hours later, I am now a part of). I had never done debate in high school, nor am I one to argue with others, but that debate we did on raising the driving age/ mock trial made me recognize how much fun it could be and how I possibly can become really good at it if I had much more practice. All in all, thanks for providing me with a kick-ass class Mr.Doyle.
