For my final project, I wanted to focus on nature, more specifically flowers, and how they relate to the idea of “new beginnings”. College is, for me a new beginning and especially this year, there are so many new experiences to go through. I wanted college to be a new beginning, I wanted and needed to start over in a way, and I feel this series reflects that. I’ve always been very shy and self conscious, and the way I placed the flowers in their sequence, I feel it shows how I am coming out of my shell, by going from dark to light. I love everything about nature and I really enjoy photographing it. The way I approached this was really natural. Right now there are so many flowers blooming and I wanted the flowers to be the sole focus in the images.

The second reason I wanted to take photographs of flowers is one of my favorite bible sections: “Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, (Matthew 6:26-30 ESV)”. This verse has always been a comfort to me, and every time I see flowers, I am reminded of this verse and of the promises surrounding it.
