First Edition SA3/4
Final Draft SA3/4
This short assignment was the most difficult for me to complete effectively, because it was the first time I had ever needed to create an annotated bibliography. The main outcome targeted in this assignment was outcome 2, because it was necessary for me to support my proposal and research paper through a variety of sources from varying opinions and websites. I also did not understand the importance of verifying and backing up claims with a multitude of sources, because this outcome truly does improve the effectiveness of your writing (especially if it is academic) because your claims and statements will have a network of backbones to solidify them. I was able to incorporate this outcome throughout my entire Short Assignment 4 because it consists of a topic proposal and annotated bibliography, which is (in its entirety) my summarization, analysis, and application of many handpicked sources pertaining to my research project. In particular, one area that I specifically had difficulty with was the aspect of incorporating quotes directly from the source in my annotated bibliography while also briefing the audience of the source, its significance, and its application in my research project.
When discussing issues surrounding the eerie governmental regulation of media, I started my analysis by saying “While many science fiction writers tell the tale of a dystopian future where mankind questions his/her own free will in society, Joanna Stern delivers an extremely current bone-chilling yet impactful article detailing the ways in which our digital freedom is restricted by this so called ‘algorithmic future’ – “Ruled by robots programmed to keep our attention as long as possible, [promoting] stuff we’d most likely tap, share or heart—and [burying] everything else.’” This quote demonstrates outcome 2 because I was able to introduce the source while also conveying my fears and stakes of this research project – why regulated media consumption (by the government) is extremely frightening as the media we consume is in the hands of an executive force I also fulfilled outcome 4 by undergoing many revisions, as in my first draft, my annotated bibliographies were lacking both in number and in quality, so in my revision I was able to find more sources that pertained to my research subject while also integrating elevated analysis and better explaining how the source both related to my project and the ways in which I would use the source (or not use it!).
