Think about FYPP’s learning goal Ethics and Social Responsibility in relation to the entire quarter. How does the material we studied this quarter connect to that goal? Use concrete examples from the quarter to demonstrate your point.
Ethics and Social Responsibility explores our connections with each other across cultures, languages, natural resources, and values by learning to
• articulate the relationships between local, national, and global events.

• understand how values are shaped and influence decisions.

• analyze the relationship between knowledge and ethics in specific contexts.

• create connections between individual and social identities.

Ethics and Social Responsibility: Throughout the class, we frequently completed work that had a direct relation to the FYPP's learning goal of Ethics and Social Responsibility. Every few days, we would cover ( read, watch films, discuss about, hear lectures, and reflect on) a different group of displaced people in the America. These included : the homeless, those affected by the mass incarceration system, undocumented immigrants, survivors of hurricane Katrina, the displacement and suffering of those in Latin America ( Ex: refugees from Chilean revolution), and Native Americans stuck on government reservations. As the class progressed, the clear parallels between all these groups became quite apparent, and the situations of these people seemed to shift from isolated events, to a more broader global problem. As emphasized by our discussion on the natural disaster of Hurricane Katrina being socially constructed, the plight of all these various groups are directly a result of an oppressive system that we are all a part of.
