I have a complex claim in my introduction of my major paper 2. “Therefore, I argue that the academic term is an important element when students choosing universities for the depth of each class, the travel preference and the breaks students have each year, and the convenience of transfer to another college, getting internships and study abroad. ” (1) This claim is very organized and clear. I provided the road map here. The readers will easily know that I’m going to talk about in the rest of my paper. The argument also involves analysis, it leads to several evidences including the academic researches and the behavior of students.
I’ve talked about the stakes at the beginning of the paper. Students need to go to the university to be more competitive in order to get a better job. Many elements need to be considered when choosing a university, the academic term is important because it has effects on many aspects of students’ life. But most students choose to ignore it. I’m trying to ask the students to consider more about it. (1)
To make the paper more persuasive, except for talking about my opinions, I also mentioned a counterclaim very close to the ending. “Many people hold the idea that students should not consider the academic term as an important element when choosing a university.” (5) I made the analysis about the reasons that I disagree with this counterclaim in that paragraph to make my claim more persuasive. I was also dealing with a point of view from the international students. “The winter break is also not reasonable for non-local students, especially for the international students. The length of the winter break gives the international students a headache from planning what to do.” I was explaining this in details what effects academic terms have on international students. This is an opinion from a unique perspective and it supports my claim.
In my major paper 1, I have many effective transitions. “The dialects do show the diversity, but this doesn’t mean a dialect is only a branch of a language. It is the mirror reflecting the culture of the area, the ideology of the speakers, and the heritage of history.” (2) “The dialects are not only very meaningful, but also very useful.” (3) “The dialects do have significant meanings to the language, but the standard language is always the most important one.” (3) If you only read my first sentence of most paragraphs, you can guess what I was talking about in the last paragraph and what I’m going to talk about in this. Because those transition sentences have analysis of both. Those helped to develop a line of inquiry.
