Finally I went back to the beach from the deep ocean. I know it’s the end of my diving experience. It is also the end…

of English 131.

It’s hard to describe my feeling right now, mixing with the happiness of “graduating” from the class, the excitement of getting a vacation after practicing for so long, but also the dismay of saying goodbye to my dear ocean of writing and my nice and helpful instructor Tesla.

As I mentioned in the introduction, I worried a lot before getting into this class – I don’t speak very fluent English and I haven’t written for so long. After graduating from high school, I was being lazy in my summer vacation. During my first quarter in college, I took 2 science classes and one foreign language class. No writing assignments were signed. That means I haven’t written for about half year!

I found it so hard to write when I was working on my first short assignment. It took me so long and I could write just 5 pages. Compare to some of my peers who could easily wrote 7-10 pages, I was really upset. I hate myself being lazy for so long, also regret that I picked the wrong time to take this class. I should wait for later, wait until I got familiar with English writing again.

But now I found this class was helping me on this. I still remembered the weekend that I had to write my first draft for major paper 2, I felt so easy. I didn’t really think a lot about it and I didn’t write the outcome. I started and I kept writing until I finished it. It was so different than the time I was working on my first short assignment. I didn’t have to sit there, thinking for what to write next. I didn’t really feel my writing skill was improved until then.

I went to the writing center after I finished my short assignment 2. People working there told me I was being a storyteller. I was not writing an academic piece of work. But when I revised it last week, I understood what they meant deeper.

I need to have a topic sentence for each paragraph.

I need to make a “sandwich” for all my quotations.

I need to be a narrator but not using the first person statements.

I need to …

Thank you Tesla for teaching me all those things and now I knew how to write a paper in college. I’m sure this will help me in the rest of my college life or even the whole life. I’m taking a writing class next quarter. I’m sure it will be much more difficult for me if I didn’t take this class.

Besides the improvement in writing, I also enjoyed being a student in this class. Your class is really fun. I didn’t get any pressure from this class. I liked the relaxed atmosphere around and I really want to take this class again!

Hope you enjoy your spring break.

I wish you would remember me as one of your student. :)

See you.
