Share Screen
Share Screen
Sharing material in a course is an important part of Zoom meeting, whether it's a lecture presentation, or a fun image for an icebreaker.
Things you can share with students during a Zoom meeting:
- Slideshow presentations
- Web sites
- Videos
- Coding environments
- Annotated whiteboards
- Second camera view
- Documents/PDFs
- Selecting the Share Screen icon on Zoom in-meeting control bar opens a window where you can select which content you wish to share from your computer.
- Selecting the small arrow to the right of the icon opens a menu with access Advanced Sharing options, such as limiting screen sharing to hosts and co-hosts.
Share Screen: Basic tab
When you click the Share Screen icon from the meeting controls, the Screen Share interface appears, where you can choose what screen or application to share. The interface opens to the first of three sharing options, Basic (Advanced, and Files).
This sharing step is not visible to meeting participants.
- The Basic tab includes options for sharing either an entire screen or a single application window.
- Selecting Desktop will share everything visible on your computer screen (this means every application, browser window, email, etc.). This is handy when you need to switch between multiple applications, but can be visually cluttered if you only intend to share one resource.
Note: If you have multiple monitors, you can choose to share one screen by selecting "Screen 1" or "Screen 2" - Selecting a specific application window, such as a web browser, will share only what you can see in the web browser. If you need to switch between windows to share, you will need to initiate a new screen share to select a different window.
- In this example, a Powerpoint application is selected, so only the Powerpoint will show in the window.
- If you are showing a video or playing audio, make sure to check the boxes to Share sound and Optimize for video clip.
- Clicking the Share button will share the selected content with other meeting attendees.
Changing what you share
While screen sharing, you may need to re-organize windows, fix an issue, or let the class take a brief pause. There are a few easy ways to move smoothly between different views or types of content without sharing more than you want to share with your audience.
- Selecting Pause Share will "freeze" the share. Participants will continue to see a snapshot of what was visible on screen when you paused until you select the button again to Resume Share.
- Selecting New Share will allow you to switch to sharing another screen, web site, application, or presentation.
- Selecting Stop Share will end sharing completely.
Share Screen: Advanced Tab
Select the Advanced tab to share:
-
-
- A Portion of Screen (this is a handy feature that allows you to select a "box" around a discrete section of your desktop.
- Slides as a Virtual Background (Zoom will allow you to move between slides with your image projected in the bottom corner)
- Computer Audio without a visual component
- A Video from your computer
- Content from 2nd Camera
-
NOTE:
- By default, All Participants can share screen during a Zoom meeting. However, you can change this setting so only the host can share screen. Select the small arrow next to Share Screen icon to open Advanced Sharing Options and change who can share: All participants or, Host Only.
Move the control bar when screen sharing
The Zoom control bar is NOT visible to anyone in the meeting when you screen share. But when you're sharing something, the controls might get in the way, and it can be easier to move them, or make them go away (for the time being when you're sharing).
There are several ways to "move" the controls out of your way.
- If you use a mouse, click and drag the control bar from any point. (You will need to click and hold while dragging; if you click on an icon and let go, you'll activate the feature).
- Next to the message, "You are screen sharing," select the curved arrow icon to dock the control bar to the bottom or top of your screen.
- To completely hide the meeting control bar, select 1. More from in-meeting controls, and 2. Hide Floating Meeting Controls. Once the controls are hidden, tap the Esc key on your keyboard to reveal the in-meeting control bar.
