Signing in to Zoom

There are three different ways to log in to your Zoom account. If you are mainly using Zoom for a course that you are teaching through Canvas, UW's learning management system, the recommended approach is to access UW Zoom directly through your Canvas course.

1. Zoom app in Canvas

To access the Zoom app in your Canvas course:

  1. Log in to UW Canvas using your UW NetID.
  2. From your Dashboard, select your course where you intend to use Zoom.
  3. Select Zoom in the course navigation.

If the Zoom app does not appear in your Canvas course navigation, you can enable it using the steps below:

  1. Select Settings at the bottom of the Canvas course navigation.
  2. Select the Navigation tab at the top of the Settings page, and locate Zoom on the list of possible navigation items.
  3. Select the three-dot menu next to Zoom and select + Enable from the menu.
  4. Select the Save button at the bottom to confirm the navigation changes.

2. UW Zoom web portal

To log in to the UW Zoom web portal:

Zoom sign in button om the UW Zoom home page.

  1. Visit the web site washington.zoom.us Links to an external site..
  2. Select Sign in to UW Zoom.
  3. If you have not used Zoom, you will be prompted to install the Zoom desktop application Links to an external site..
  4. Sign in with your UW NetID.

Note: If you are signed in to another Zoom account, you will need to sign out before you can log in using your UW NetID. If you remain signed in to another account, Zoom will not allow you to add, edit, and host meetings scheduled under your UW account.

To make sure you are signed in to the correct account:

  1. In the top navigation, select your profile picture. The profile menu will display the email address associated with your account.
  2. If your profile does not show your @uw.edu email address, select Sign Out in the menu.
  3. Visit washington.zoom.us Links to an external site. in a new tab or browser window.
  4. Sign in with your UW NetID.

3. Zoom desktop application

The third way to log in to Zoom is through the Zoom desktop application. This process can be handy for joining meetings, but it has fewer options available when scheduling or editing meetings. We recommend managing meetings you have scheduled through the Zoom app in Canvas or through the UW Zoom web portal.

Note: The Zoom desktop application opens when you start a meeting. If you have not done so already, download and install the Zoom desktop application Links to an external site.. We recommend regularly updating or reinstalling this application to ensure it is up to date.

Once you have installed Zoom:

  1. Open the desktop application and select Sign in.
  2. Select SSO. The UW's Single sign-on (SSO) authentication service provides access to most UW systems using your UW NetID and password.
  3. Sign in with your UW NetID.

NOTES:

  • If you are new to the UW and do not have a UW NetID yet, please contact your program manager, program director, or academic HR representative to ask about next steps.
  • If you have a NetID but are unable to sign in to your UW Zoom account, contact ctnmhelp@uw.edu.
  • Zoom updates its software regularly, so make sure to update Zoom application.
