This year, the CES was a busy day. Intel introduces the twelfth and new series of its processors' chips. Intel had a good performance these years and owns a large part of the tech market. This time, Alder Lake has unveiled the twelfth generation processors for light, slim and cheap laptops in 2022, which are in the P and U series. We have a total of 20 new chips in the P series with 28 watts, U series with 15 and 9 watts, as well as Pentium and Celeron. The first lightweight and slim ultrabooks or laptops with these processors will be launched in March. Let’s get deeper and see what is exact specifications of this new series.
12th generation Intel Alder Lake chips
Intel has announced that the multi-threaded performance of these processors in powerful models has increased by about 70% compared to the 11th generation. In addition, Intel says the new chips perform better than Apple's M1 and M1 Pro and AMD's R7 5800U Ryzen in reputable benchmarks. Although the company has made big claims about the new chips, so we have to wait for the products equipped with them to confirm their authenticity.
Intel had some changes
Intel has also reconsidered the naming of its processors. For example, P-series processors with a thermal output of 28 watts were previously classified as U-series. P-series chips, which have less power than their H-series counterparts, are similar in many aspects, including the number of cores. The Intel Core i7-1280P, for example, uses 14 cores, including 6 powerful cores and 8 low-power cores, but with a lower frequency and overall performance.
12th generation Intel Alder Lake p and U series
The U-series models, while having fewer cores than the P-Series, also offer lower thermal power. It should be noted that these chips in the highest model still have 2 powerful cores and the total number of cores is between 6 and 10 that other cores are of low consumption. Newer Intel chips also have IRIS XE graphics, although they can also use standalone graphics such as Arc. In addition, the new processors support Wi-Fi 6E, Thunderbolt 4, and PCIe 4.0 interface, but do not support HDMI 2.1.
Finally, it should be noted that the new P-Series and U-Series are also part of the third generation of the Intel Evo standard. Products with this standard should take advantage of features such as a 1080p webcam, 6E Wi-Fi network with high battery charging, and high charging speed.
